Relay Report by Sean O Neill

A courageous run by Trim AC's under 12 boys relay team was rewarded with silver medals at the Meath Cross Country championship on Sunday.

On a day memorable for icy toes and runny noses the team, comprised of Alex Bond, Rory Gordon, Leo Bond and David O'Neill, were very impressive in their first relay race in the Trim colours.
As the race began, Bohermeen AC took a strong lead but Alex Bond chased hard and established himself in a clear second place, putting a gap between himself and the rest of the field. At the 250 metre mark Rory Gordon, who is in his first year with the club, took the baton and ran powerfully to retain the team's second place. He then passed to Leo Bond, the youngest member of the team. At little over 10 years of age Leo showed tremendous determination when the pressure came. With 50 metres to the final baton change the chasing third placed team managed to catch up and looked as if they were about to overtake him, but Leo would have none of it. Digging deep he managed to pull away again and gave the baton to David O'Neill in clear second place. David gave chase to the leading Bohermeen athlete and although he made up ground he was unable to catch him and in the end the team were delighted with their second place.

A hearty well done finally to Dunboyne AC who hosted the event and the Meath officials who as always were generous with their time and patience.

The wonderful autumn setting of Glendalough was the venue for the second Fighting Blindness 15km trail race on Saturday 5th November. The course took runners through the monastic area of Seven Churches for the early stages of the race. It then passed the lakeshore before climbing past Poulanass Waterfall continuing towards the highest point of the course at 1680 metres. The descent was fast and furious along firetrails towards the village of Laragh then thrugh some tight bends to finish at the Green Road in the heart of Glendalough.
Trim AC had two runners taking part. Declan Swords finished in 16th overall in a field of two minutes faster than last year in 73.31 and Ciaran Tobin finished in a time of 85.32.

Day 2 cross country in Baconstown

MEATH uneven ages u9/11/13/15/17 and intermediate cross country championships Sunday 9 October at 12 noon. Trim AC would like our the parents of young runners to make a big effort to attend this event. Its only a few miles out the road so excuses should be thin on the ground.Team competition is dependent on all members taking part. If you was in a football club how would you feel if only half the squad appeared on match day?

How Do I get there?
Directions to Sunday's uneven age, junior & intermediate cross country in
Baconstown - from Trim take the road to Rathmolyon. Drive through Ratmolyon
on the R159 towards Enfield. About 4mls out of Ratmolyon there is a road to
the right with a sign "Na Fianna Football Pitch" - take that right and the
venue is up that road  on the left.

Bronze for Trim girls

The girls under 12 team of Hannah Gilligan, Caoimhe Rowe, Andrea Hiney and Niamh Fahey finished in the bronze medal position at the Meath even ages cross country championships at Ballinacree. St Brigids reversed the first part of the course this year and considering the torrents of the past two days the conditions held up reasonably well, particularly in the hillier field.
David O Neill was 7th overall in the boys under 12. In the under 14 boys Niall Durkin and Mike O'Neill ran well as did Ann Marie Diver in the girls equivalent. The next under age competitions take place at Baconstown on Sunday 9 October with Na Fianna hosting the uneven ages (9/11/13/15/17) and intermediate championships.

Trim runners join race for the Park !!!

Trim Runners prominent in the race to the Park

8,500 runners, joggers, walkers, made their way to the  Phoenix Park last Saturday
morning for the 2011 National Lottery Dublin Half Marathon.

Meath club runner Mark Hoey (Star of the Sea AC) took the honours with his
time of 1:08:50.  Hoey who has represented Meath on cross country teams had the biggest win of his senior career is looking like a good prospect for next months DCM.
There was good turnout from Trim Athletic Club
with a few half marathon debutantes and three personal bests from the more
experienced crew. For a lot of the runners, today was a big test of how
their legs would hold up for the big one on the 31st of October. The record
number of participants is a strong indication that the numbers for the 32nd
edition of the National Lottery Dublin Marathon will follow suit and exceed
the 13,000 plus who took part last year.Entry remains open for the National
Lottery Dublin Marathon until Monday 3rd October, see www.dublinmarathon.ie
for details.
The Trim results were Don Mahon, 1.24; John Ferry, 1.25, Quinton
Bourke,1.31, Brian Cully,1.25,Joe Mc Namara, 1.27,Evelyn
Ferguson,1.47,Conrad McGonagle, 1.59, Heather Carty,2.06, Jane Murphy, 2.10.

satisified that their training is paying dividends.

Autumn Re Run

Well done and thanks to all those who turned out at Porchfields last night for the Autumn Re Run over the Braveheart route. We hope to develop a few competitive runs over the winter months on different routes. We might use some type of handicap system to keep it sharp and encourage new members as they develop and improve. If any members have suggestions, opinions or the urge to volunteer a night or two in administering such a set up please contact trimathleticclub@hotmail.com.
